Shelford Fun Run 2023 raises £5,000

… and was a sell out!

2023 has been our biggest (and hottest!) Shelford Fun Run to date, raising an amazing £5,000 for our two charities!

Twins Matthew and Issac making it a blistering 1st and 2nd home in 15:27.6 and 15.28.7!

So many people commented on the wonderful atmosphere and we were delighted to hear that some kind residents put out sprinklers to help our hot runners cool off –  a lovely touch!

“…all done with great enthusiasm…all the volunteers did a wonderful job in setting up the [race] village and ensuring all the runners had a great experience. Very well done to everyone this morning.”   – Race Adjudicator

Have you spotted your finish line photo from our fabulous chip timing provider Sublime Timing:

New this year, the Super Sensory 1k by Power2Inspire went down really well and we are hoping to continue to make our event as inclusive as possible going forward!

Many thanks also to Cara Coffee for opening and donating all proceeds from that morning.   Funds raised from the day will be split equally between our two host charities: Great Shelford Playscape, for the mini skate park phase of the masterplan project, and CamRARE for their Unique Feet community group supporting families with a child with a rare condition.

We want to send a massive THANK YOU to all our amazing volunteers who help set up and marshal the course and to our wonderful sponsors who cover the costs of putting on an official closed roads race ((scroll down to find out more about them) – we couldn’t do this without you all!

Virtual Shelford Fun Run 2020: The Results

Thank you so much to everyone taking part in our event this year and congratulations to everyone who completed their virtual 5k!

Grid of 9 images: Including runners, a countryside view, a fitness tracker and a selfie close up. Text 'thank you' and 'shelford fun run 2020''. Brand logos for: Total Race Timing, Relief Chiropractic, Bibetta, NY Wines and Cambridge Fruit Co

It’s such a shame we couldn’t be together in the traditional sense (everyone in the same place at the same time, on the same day!), but it’s been fantastic to be able to hold the event in the virtual world and for our community still to be able to connect with each other!

Unfortunately, due to tightening restrictions on social gatherings, we have had to cancel the community event we had planned to hold, for people to collect their medals.  Instead we will be delivering and posting medals to you over the next few weeks.

Although we didn’t focus on winning times this year (due to everyone running their own routes) we do want to say huge congratulations to those who logged the fastest times:

Chris Smith (Male) – 00:19:35

Liz Carrothers (Female) – 00:23:25

Nate D (U18) – 00:24:28

Laurence M (U11) – 00:25:57

Photo: Head and shoulder close up of a young girl smiling at the cameraWe also want to give a particular shout out to Willow B, our #UniqueFeet competitor, who finds walking very difficult due to a rare genetic condition.   She took on the challenge to carry out the walk with her mum over a series of days to help encourage the family to get out and about after COVID shielding had paused.

This has been such a lovely benefit of the event having been virtual this year!

We’ve also had participants joining from far afield, and have had #ShelfordSelfie posts shared from Wales and Austria!

Perhaps something for us to think about, to make future events more incluisve?

Shelford Fun Run 2019: The Results

What a beautiful day, and so fantastic to see the village out in force and welcoming runners from all around the county (and beyond!)!

Start line before the raceWe had the most Shelford Fun Runners to date!

348 finishers!  Amazing!

The chip timing company brought with them some zippy new technology that made checking in a breeze and results were pretty instantaneous with text messages after the race.

New service facilities on the recreation ground (part of the Shelford Playscape masterplan) enabled us to have all the refreshments and entertainments in one zone, so we were able to keep the ‘race village’ nice and organised.

This year we also introduced a split start to give elite runners plenty of room to get off the mark, and the winners results were:

Patrick O’Hare (Male Adult): 16:35.9

Mikey Halton (Male U18):  19:47

Oliver Seaborn (Male U11): 20:02

Super speedy Oliver, who was hot on the heels of the 1st male U18,  just pipped the first woman to the post!

Nicola McBride  (Female Adult): 20.17

There was a bit of confusion as to which female under 18 arrived first, but judging by the finishing photos it was Sofia Munoz.  However, as she was wearing her father’s bib, she didn’t appear in her age category (Dad, you might want to keep your daughter’s time though!).  Making the female under 18s race a family affair…

Sofia Munoz (Female U18): 23:30

Emi Munoz (Female U11): 23.53

2019 fun runners setting off

Many congratulations to all the runners, everyone got back in under an hour, which is another event record!

Also to Tiara Hughes for a fantastic pre-race warm up and Noel Young Wines and Scotsdales Garden Centre for donating the prizes.

And not forgetting all the supporters, coffee drinkers and ice cream eaters!

Thank you all for making such a fabulous event, and for helping to raise funds (££ to be calculated!) for Shelford Playscape, the unique and inclusive playground which will enhance our amazing venue in the future!
