PLEASE NOTE
We are now SOLD OUT for the Shelford Fun Run 5k!
If you wish to take part in the Super Sensory 1k only, please head over to Power2Inspire‘s website to register.
It is forecast to be much hotter than usual for this time of year, so please make sure to take appropriate precautions. There will be water available at a 3km water station and at the finish line but we highly recommend bring a refillable water bottle.
correspondence
If you have signed up for the 5k event, you will receive an email from our chip timing provider Sublime Timing that will contain race day information as well as your race bib number. We anticipate this email will go out on Friday 8th September, after registration has closed and all numbers are allocated.
GETTING HERE
The schedule for the day
8:45am – 10am Number bib collection open
10:15am: Warm Up and Race Briefing.
There will be a warm up session, on the recreation ground for all runners. Please spread out as much as possible to give everyone space! It’s important to get those muscles moving before you set off!
There will also be a short briefing from the Race Director.
10:25am: Get Ready!
To ensure the race meets UKA race rules, there will be a split start, with the UKA 5k Race wave setting off first closely followed by the family friendly 5k Fun Run on the same course.
As it is chip timed, whichever wave you start will not affect your own race time!
Race runners should line up at the start line ready for the first wave (you must be over 11 years old to take part in the race wave). All fun runners, runners under 11 years old and family groups should stand in the ‘FUN RUN’ area, at the south end of the sport pavilion, ready for the second wave.
10:30am: Go!
The first horn will sound and the race will begin!
When the start line clears, fun runners, under 11s and family groups should move up the the start line and a second horn will sound!
Watch out for the speed hump as you enter and leave the car park. Try to stay on the road rather than the pavements.
There will be a water station just after 3k, outside the Navigator pub.
Good luck and have fun!
Finish
The finish line is in the same location as the start line. Try not to stop just after you cross the finish line. Remain in the order you finished and move through the finish funnel with race number visible.
It is important that when you have finished your race that you do not run back along the course to run in with another runner, this can cause double entry and incorrect results.
sustainable event
We are trying to find ways to make our event more sustainable, so we will not be having goodie bags at the finish line. Instead, head to Bidwell’s gazebo where there will be a goodie table with items from our sponsors, medals (if you’ve opted to receive one), plus plenty of water and fruit available.
We would also encourage you to bring along a refillable water bottle. We will have a refill point available at the start/finish line. Don’t worry if you forget or don’t have one, we will have cups of water available at the water station on the course and bottled water available at the finish line too.
super sensory 1k
The SS1k will be a completely separate circuit of the recreation ground and will not have a set start time to allow groups to set off one at a time so that sensory stations don’t become to congested. It is free to complete, either instead of the 5k, or after completing the 5k if you fancy something extra! First entry will be 10:30am and last entry at 11:30am.
Photos
We will take photos of the event and there will be photographers on the course as well as the start and finish area. The photos will be available via the Shelford Fun Run facebook page after the event and we will use some of them on our other social media channels and in future publicity.
If you do not want your photo to be used, please tell the volunteers at registration or email funrun@shelfordplayscape.org referencing your race number.
Medical
A first aid team will be on hand for any medical needs on the course and on the rec.
Toilets
There are toilets, including standard accessible toilets, inside the Race Centre (Great Shelford Memorial Hall) and the Great Shelford Sports Pavilion adjacent to the start/finish line.
We will also have a Revoloo (mobile changing places toilet) available on the day for people who cannot use a standard accessible toilet.
Bags & Changing
There will be an area in the Race Centre where bags can be left but this will be entirely at your own risk so please do not leave any valuables in your luggage. We would encourage you to bring as little with you as possible.
Results
A QR code on your race bib will take you to the sublime timing results page and we will share the link to the results page on this website and social media channels later in the day.
This is a charity event organised by volunteers and, while all effort will be made to record finish times, the organisers take no responsibility for times not recorded accurately. If an accurate time is imperative we ask competitors to record their own times.
Headphones
We recommend that headphones are not worn on the run, but if you choose to, please adjust the volume so you are aware of other runners and alert to any directions or announcements by marshals.
Accessibility
We aim to be as inclusive an event as possible. Please do get in touch with any particular access needs that you have.
Dogs & Scooters
No dogs are permitted on the 5k course or Super Sensory 1k.
No scooters are permitted on the 5k course.
Buggies and mobility aids are of course welcome in the 5k fun run and Super Sensory 1k!
REFRESHMENTS
There will be a coffee stall and ice cream van available on the rec before, during and after the race.
Cara Coffee on High Street, Great Shelford will be open all morning offering free refreshments with any donations going to the Playscape.
sponsorhip
Your entry fee helps us raise much needed funds for our co-host charities Great Shelford Playscape and CamRARE.
ROAD CLOSURE
For the duration of the Shelford Fun Run, roads will be closed to vehicles.
The road closure means there will be no access to car parking at the Memorial Hall or on Woollards Lane. Please refer to our find us page for details.
The route is shown above and the roads closed for the run will be:
Great Shelford: Woollards Lane, Church Street and Bridge Lane.
Little Shelford: Whittlesford Road, High Street and Church St.
The roads will be closed to vehicles from 10.15am to around 12.00noon, and vehicular access to these roads will be for emergencies only during these times. This road closure will affect any adjoining roads too, e.g. Kings Mill Lane and Courtyards and we apologise to residents for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you have any queries please email funrun@shelfordplayscape.org otherwise if you are not taking part in the run, we hope you’ll cheer the runners on as they pass by along the route!
